Alleged car bomber, al-Qaeda suspects captured
BAGHDAD – Coalition forces captured two wanted individuals and ten additional suspected al-Qaeda in Iraq terrorists during operations Sunday in northern Iraq.
Coalition forces used intelligence gained from an operation Mar. 24 to capture an alleged close associate of al-Qaeda in Iraq leaders and four additional suspects in Mosul.
Farther south, Coalition forces captured a suspected bombing cell leader and two alleged associates in Bayji. The suspected cell leader is also believed to have carried out attacks against Coalition forces and assassinations. Four additional suspected terrorists were detained in Hawija when Coalition forces targeted a car-bomb attack coordinator working in the area.
"Iraqi and Coalition force operations continue to capture and kill al-Qaeda in Iraq terrorists and there is still a tough fight ahead," said Maj. Winfield Danielson, MNF-I spokesman. "Across the country, the Iraqi people are rejecting al-Qaeda, and we are helping them realize a future free from terrorists' indiscriminate violence and corrupt ideology."
