Detainees released in Anbar

Multi National Force – West

AL ASAD AIR BASE, Iraq – Marines from Multi National Force - West facilitated the release of 42 detainees from U.S. custody on April 7, 2009, in Al Anbar province.
 
MNF-W followed a detailed release process designed to ensure the security of the people of Anbar and the safety of the detainees were not in jeopardy following the release.  Marines from MNF-W coordinated with the Iraqi Police to verify no detainees were wanted pursuant to a warrant and then released the detainees near their place of residence.  Prior to release, detainees participated in a public release ceremony where an oath of good citizenship and renouncement of violence was administered.  Individuals were then released to family and friends.
