IA Conducts Raid To Capture Criminal Tied To Kidnapping and Murder of Iraqi Civilians
Multi-National Corps – Iraq PAO
BAGHDAD, Iraq – Specially trained Iraqi Army forces conducted an early-morning raid Oct. 1 in northeast Sadr City, Baghdad, to capture a suspect involved in the kidnapping and murder of Iraqi civilians.
Iraqi forces, with coalition advisers, established a security cordon and quickly gained entry to multiple locations looking for a suspect allegedly involved in the kidnapping, torture and murder of innocent Iraqis. Iraqi forces quickly detained four persons of interest without incident or injury to them or the 14 women and children present at the locations. During the operation, Iraqi forces received small-arms fire from multiple ground-level and roof-top locations and returned controlled fire at identified targets to neutralize the threat. Departing the objective, they were again engaged by small-arms fire from roof-top locations. Iraqi forces immediately identified the threats and neutralized them with well-aimed, controlled fire.
Operations on the objective caused minimal damage, mostly to doors and gates upon entry, and resulted in no Iraqi forces or coalition forces casualties. The unit was unable to assess whether there were civilian casualties due to receiving enemy fire.
The operation was conducted as part of Operation Together Forward, the goal of which is to reduce incidents of sectarian violence in Baghdad, and it demonstrates the increasing capability of Iraqi forces.
