ISF arrest 2 suspected AQI criminal associates near Habaniyah

BAGHDAD – Iraqi Security Forces arrested two suspected Al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) criminal associates during a joint security operation conducted near Habaniyah today.

ISF and U.S. advisors searched several buildings for a suspected AQI leader who allegedly directs operations including attacks on ISF and coalition forces. He also allegedly supports extortion operations against the Government of Iraq and construction contracts.

Information and evidence gathered at the scene led Iraqi forces to identify and arrest two suspected AQI criminal associates.

All joint operations are pursuant to a warrant issued by an Iraqi judge.

Iraqi and U.S. advisors conduct joint operations in accordance with the Security Agreement and in coordination with the Iraqi government to target terrorists seeking to disrupt the security and stability of Iraq.
