Northern Iraq operations net 7 AQI criminal associates

BAGHDAD – Iraqi Security Forces arrested seven suspected Al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) criminal associates during joint security operations conducted in northern Iraq today.

In Kirkuk, ISF and U.S. advisors searched a building for a suspected AQI member allegedly involved in the financial and operational coordination of the terrorist organization.

Information and evidence gathered at the scene led Iraqi forces to identify and arrest three suspected AQI criminal associates.

During another operation in east Mosul, ISF and U.S. advisors searched a building for a suspected AQI leader who allegedly has ties to extortion and weapons procurement cells.

Information and evidence gathered at the scene led Iraqi forces to identify and arrest four suspected AQI criminal associates.

All joint operations are pursuant to a warrant issued by an Iraqi judge.

Iraqi and U.S. advisors conduct joint operations in accordance with the Security Agreement and in coordination with the Iraqi government to target terrorists seeking to disrupt the security and stability of Iraq.
