Soldiers charged with murder
Multi-National Division – North PAO

TIKRIT, Iraq – Two US Army Soldiers have been charged with the premeditated murder of an Iraqi national. 
 
Charges were announced today.
 
These charges are an accusation of wrongdoing.  The soldiers are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of any alleged offense.
 
The soldiers are assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, based at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.  The unit is currently attached to Multi-National Division - North, Iraq.  Offenses are alleged to have occurred on or about June 23, 2007, in the vicinity of Kirkuk, Iraq.  The two soldiers are charged as follows:
 
Sgt. 1st Class Trey A. Corrales, San Antonio, Texas, one specification of premeditated murder.  Sgt. 1st Class Corrales’ charge was preferred on July 17, 2007
 
Spc. Christopher P. Shore, Winder, Georgia, one specification of premeditated murder.  Spc. Shore’s charge was preferred on July 18, 2007
 
The investigation by the United States Army Criminal Investigation Division resulted from reports of the alleged wrongdoing made by fellow Soldiers to military authorities.  The investigation continues.
 
While he is not a suspect in the case, Lt. Col. Michael Browder, 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade 25th Infantry Division in Kirkuk, Iraq, was relieved by Maj. Gen. Benjamin R. Mixon, commander, Multi-National Division – North and Task Force Lightning, based on the totality of the circumstances surrounding this incident and due to a lack of confidence in his ability to command effectively.
 
The alleged murder was committed by Soldiers under Browder’s command.
 
No charges have been filed against Browder.  He is not a suspect in this case and is not accused of committing any crime.
