Statement from Multi-National Force-Iraq condemning the killing of journalists

BAGHDAD, Iraq – Multi-National Force-Iraq joins leaders of all communities in Iraq in condemning the criminal attacks on journalists as they go about their critical daily reporting of the situation in this country.

These attacks undermine the importance of establishing a free and democratic society that allows individuals to express themselves without threat of violence or retribution. The freedom of the press is afforded to everyone by the Government of Iraq and supported by the Coalition forces.

The Coalition stands firmly with the Government of Iraq in protecting all Iraqi journalists as they take advantage of one of the basic freedoms of mankind.

We send our sincerest condolences to the many families who have suffered the loss of a loved one, family member, or friend pursuing a career in journalism and serving the public need for information at this critical time in Iraq.
