United States Division-South is working in cooperation with United States Forces-Iraq and their joint staff to refine an automation tool that will enable United States Division-North and Center to better calculate movement through Iraq.

The tool is called the Trend Extension Database, the reservation system of choice used to document travel through Iraq as the United States military works to reposture its forces across the country.

“This tool allows planning to take place early in Phase I and will support the development of convoy support centers at Kalsu and Adder. It will also identify theater wide unit movement plans that could overwhelm daily during Phase II execution,” said Warrant Officer 1 Jonathan Hoguet, Sustainment Automation Officer, United States Division-South.

Hoguet added that TREND will only reach its full capability with the support of USF-I, the USDs, and their subordinate command elements.

According to Lt. Col. Alba Villanueva, Sustainment War fighting Chief, USD-S, the successful implementation of the TREND system can be attributed to a team effort across Iraq.

“The joint staff, particularly the Deputy for logistics, Colonel Duane Gamble, was instrumental in securing the comprehensive Command and Staff buy-in was instrumental in this tremendous undertaking.”

The remaining eight months of Operation New Dawn will require unprecedented cooperative effort by all of the UDSs and Enabling Units, while the TREND system is only one tool in that effort, it provides a centralized capability to review and refine requirements across the Force to achieve Gen. Austin’s desired end state.
